VOLUNTEER Opportunities

We are currently looking for weekly or bi-weekly volunteers to assist with cleaning and general upkeep of the bird building.

Beginning volunteer opportunities are focused primarily on keeping a clean and safe environment for the birds, interacting with the birds within their enclosures, and developing trust between you and the birds. Handling and direct interactions with the birds will be limited initially. 

The birds in our care are often scared/nervous, have sometimes been mistreated/neglected, and require rehabilitation.  To ensure the birds do not have a bad experience here at Feathers Galore, Director training/approval is required before birds may be handled. Volunteers that assist over an extended time (1+ months) will be taught proper handling and training procedures.  Birds will not be handled without prior permission from the Director.        

Volunteer duties will include:

• Cleaning Cages (changing newspaper, scrubbing cage bars and trays, cleaning toys, etc.) 
• Cleaning & Refilling Food/Water Dishes
• Sweeping
• Mopping
• Dusting
• Cleaning Walls
• Taking Out the Trash
• Other Misc. Duties As Needed

These duties typically take about 1-2 hours to complete.  These duties will require lifting, bending, moving heavy items/cages, and active body movements.  To volunteer for these current opportunities, you must be physically able to complete all the duties listed above.  This is a VOLUNTEER opportunity and will not be a paid position. We currently ask that all volunteers are at least 18 years of age.  We may consider 16+ years old with a guardian present.
