Feathers Galore

Our Facility
Prior to purchasing my current home, I was running Feathers Galore in whatever space I could find in my home.  We would fit cages wherever we could in the living room, kitchen, basement, etc.  The birds were an active part of my family's every day life, but they never had a space that was dedicated just to them.  When I purchased my current home in 2019, I promised myself that the birds/rescue would have it's own dedicated space.  I wiped out my personal savings to build and design a place just for the birds at Feathers Galore.

The "Bird Building" as I often call it is a 12x20 building that was built next to my house.  It is not a large facility, but it is a comfortable and safe space that is dedicated to the birds here at Feathers Galore.  Ideally we hope to expand to a larger building/facility at some point, but for now this is the perfect place for Feathers Galore to call home.

The building is heated and cooled so the birds are always comfortable.  It has a "play wall" that the birds love (pictured below)! It also has a coop attached for our outdoor birds (chickens, ducks, etc.).  Each bird has their own cage for their personal time, but also a community "playground" for social time.  The building is just a few steps from my house, so the birds are close to me at all times.  It typically can house about 15-30 birds at any given point.

Please note: The building is private property.   It is a part of my home property that I have dedicated to the care of the birds at Feathers Galore.  This is not a public facility with "open hours" for visiting.  All visits are by appointment only and currently only allowed for approved adopters.
Playground / Play Wall

The "Playground" was something that I considered a requirement when we built the Bird Building.  I wanted to be sure the birds had a place to play both alone and with other birds.  It is a neutral and comfortable space for the birdies to play.  It is also designed with us in mind!  The birdies are easily able to interact with humans while on this wall, which gives us a fun place to work individually with each bird.

The playground was designed so that everything on it is easily replaceable.  We know that birdies can be very destructive and love to make a mess!  We encourage this behavior here at Feathers Galore.  The wall panels, perches, and all toys on the wall can easily be removed and replaced as needed.

We love to see the birdies playing and make sure each bird gets dedicated solo time to play on the Playground.  We also will allow multiple birds to play on the wall at the same time, if the birds seem interested in doing so.  Play/social time is closely monitored so the birds are always safe, but also able to interact with similar sized birds if they choose to.

Note: If you are willing to donate to our playground, we would be truly thankful! The toys and perches do not last long around here (as I am sure you can imagine!).  We try to keep a stash of replacements on hand to change out as needed.  If interested in donating to this, please visit our Donation page.
